Does it cost anything to play StarStocker?
Not at all. Simply register to play and once you confirm your registration, (an email will be sent to you) you're ready to play.
Do I actually own a piece of the celebrities I buy shares in?
NO. We cannot stress this enough. StarStocker is a fantasy stock market simulation and you do not have any claim to any financial gain or loss from the celebrities.
How are winners determined?
At the end of every month, the StarStocker.com system will generate a list of the top gaining portfolios for the previous month. The player(s) with the highest percentage (%) gain in portfolio value from the beginning of the month will win the monthly prize(s).
Is there a way I can earn more Star Bucks other than from the stock market?
We actually have a few ways in which you can earn extra Star Bucks:
You can visit our Earn Star Bucks page and can see a wide range of surveys and offers you can participate in to earn more Star Bucks.
The 'Tell-A-Friend' feature that will allow you to earn 2000 Star Bucks for every friend that joins and plays the game.
What factors make the stock prices go up or down?
There are 2 means by which the price of any given stock can change:
- Market Forces:
As stocks are bought and sold, the stock price will react accordingly. For example, if a number of people are buying shares in a celebrity, their stock will go up. The same holds true for people selling shares. - StarStocker "Nudges":
If an event occurs that has an impact on a celebrity, the StarStocker.com team will "nudge" the stock accordingly. Examples or "nudgeable" events include: - A celebrity has a big opening weekend for a movie (Stock will go up)
- Celebrity gets arrested (Stock will go down)
How often do the "nudges" occur?
Nudges will occur sometime between 6:00 am and 9:00 am CST. Some days may have no nudges; others may have many. For example, on Mondays, there will be a number of "nudges" as weekend boxoffice results are announced.
As the market matures and the number of players increases, the number of "nudges" will decrease ensuring that stock prices are a product of stock purchases and sales (i.e. the market will set it's own prices).
How come one of my favourite celebrities is not listed in the StarStocker.com stock market?
In order to keep the game as fair as possible for newcomers to the game, we will have IPO (initial public offerings) of celebrities on a regular basis. This gives everyone a chance to get in on the ground floor of celebrities from A-listers to D-listers.
Why are there some very big name celebrities not included in the game?
Eventually, we will have a comprehensive list of celebrities. However, many of the big name celebrities will have very little volatility in their stock as they do one or two movies a year. To keep the game fun, we focus on the B-listers and downward as they seem keep things interesting and more importantly, this game more fun.
What criteria do you use to select celebrities to be included in the game?
A number of factors are used to determine what celebrities are added to the game. Player demand plays a big factor in what IPOs take place. Celebrities who are in the news frequently are also used.
Your site mentions prizes. What are they?
The prizes, and number of prizes, vary from month to month. As this site grows, we will obviously will have sponsors who will provide more and bigger prizes for our players to compete for. Check out the Prizes page for more details.
